How to choose coach seating: the short answer
Choose for the total number, including staff, then adjust for luggage, road access and comfort. Flying Eagle’s local fleet includes 7-seater MPVs, Mercedes-Benz, 16-seat minibuses, 24/28-seat, 45-seat and 60-seat coaches. 24 and 28 seats share a price, as do 45 and 60. Near a capacity limit, the larger vehicle in the same band offers value. Above 60 passengers, divide the group between two vehicles.

5 factors when choosing coach seating
1. Total passengers
Include teachers, leaders, photographers, make-up artists and staff as well as participants. Each child also needs a seat.
2. Spare seats
Allow a few places for late additions and personal belongings. Choosing the larger vehicle in the same price band gives extra places without an extra fare.
3. Luggage and supplies
For airport groups, camps or substantial equipment, choose a 45-seat or 60-seat coach with a separate luggage compartment. Luggage space is more limited on 24/28-seat vehicles.
4. Road conditions and boarding points
Rural locations, village houses, housing estates and narrow roads may not suit large coaches. Smaller or multiple vehicles may be needed. Provide precise addresses for assessment.
5. Journey length and comfort
More spare seating improves comfort for full-day trips and older passengers; short transfers can use capacity more closely.

16 seats
When to use a 16-seat minibus: groups of 7–16
16-seat minibus Smaller than a coach, it suits groups of around a dozen and is easier around estates, village houses and narrow roads. Common uses include wedding parties, family outings, small department events and cross-border trips.
16-seat minibus or 7-seater MPV?
A 7-seater carries at most 6 passengers. For 7 or more, choose a 16-seater or two 7-seater MPVs.
16 seats or 24/28 seats?
Near 16 passengers, or with more luggage and supplies, consider 24/28 seats at $500 for an urban Kowloon one-way transfer. Local 16-seat charges are not listed; request an itinerary-based comparison.

24 vs 28
24 or 28 seats? Choose the larger at the same price
24 and 28 seats share a band: $500 one way in urban Kowloon, $600 on urban Hong Kong Island, $750 from urban Kowloon to the airport, and $320/hour urban hire with a 4-hour minimum. Therefore:
- 17–24 passengers : either works; 28 seats provide four more spare places.
- 25–28 passengers : choose 28 seats.
- 29 passengers or more : upgrade to 45 seats.
24/28 seats suit department outings, wedding parties, kindergarten/small-class trips and church or community groups.
28 vs 45
28 or 45 seats? Upgrade above 28 passengers
Upgrading from 28 to 45 seats adds only $200 to urban Kowloon one-way hire ($500 → $700), or $60/hour to urban hire ($320 → $380), while adding 17 seats and a separate luggage compartment.
When should you choose 45 seats?
- Groups of 29–45 passengers.
- Groups of 25–28 with substantial luggage or supplies.
- Full-day or long journeys where extra seating space is preferred.
When should you stay with 28 seats?
- Narrow destination roads make access inconvenient for large coaches.
- The group remains within 28 and has little luggage.
45 vs 60
45 or 60 seats? Choose the larger at the same price
45 and 60 seats share a band: $700 one way in urban Kowloon, $800 on urban Hong Kong Island, $1,050 from urban Kowloon to the airport, $380/hour urban hire, and $450/hour in Southern District and more distant New Territories areas.
- 29–45 passengers : either works, with more spare places in a 60-seater.
- 46–60 passengers : choose 60 seats.
- 61 passengers or more : divide between two vehicles.
Some large coaches have a 3+2 seating layout and large luggage compartments. Check access beforehand if the route includes narrow roads.
Over 60
Groups above 60: alternatives to a 65-seat coach
Some companies offer 65-seat coaches, but Flying Eagle’s largest local coach has 60 seats . Groups of 61 or more can use the following combinations, estimated at urban Kowloon one-way rates:

Two vehicles also allow district-based pick-ups, separate transport for the two wedding families, teacher-led groups, or a vehicle allocated partly to supplies.

These are urban Kowloon one-way prices. A large coach is generally cheaper and easier for attendance checks. Two smaller vehicles are more suitable where access is narrow, pick-ups are in different districts or activities are split into groups.

The government has deferred enforcement of the statutory seat-belt requirement for bus passengers. For safety, passengers should wear seat belts throughout whenever fitted.
Older passengers and reduced mobility
Choose a roomier vehicle and allow more boarding time. Explain wheelchair or walking-aid space requirements when booking.
